Conference on Water Justice:

Call for papers_V2.2

Topic: Water-roots Innovation

Our water resources are limited and face mounting pressures from climate change, pollution, population growth, and aging water infrastructure. Innovation can help address our water challenges and help put us on a more sustainable path while also supporting economic growth. Low tech, grassroots/water-roots-level innovations may hold the key to overcoming some of the resource challenges we face today; and we might be missing them. An inexpensive arsenic-removing system in which chopped-up pieces of ordinary plastic beverage bottles are coated with cysteine, an amino acid. When the plastic pieces are added to water, the cysteine binds to the arsenic, removing it and rendering the water drinkable. Consider the idea of Removing Arsenic with Plastic Bottles as inspirational example of Water Roots Innovation
